Who we are

This policy explains how Trotr handles personal information when you use the horse riding app or this website.

This page is the privacy policy the app stores will use. It is not legal advice.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use Trotr, we may collect:

• Account details — name, email address, optional phone number, and sign-in information if you create an account.
• Location during a ride — precise location while a ride you choose to share is active, and precise location on incident pins you place. Trotr does not collect your location while you are idle.
• Photos — profile photos and incident photos, if you add them.
• Horses, routes, and groups — horses on your profile, route notes, and groups you join or create.
• Public posts — routes you contribute to the Route Library, and reports you post on the safety map.
• Watchers — who you invite to follow a ride, and what they can see while that ride is shared: live location, expected return, and completion.
• Device and app — information needed to run Trotr, such as device type, app version, and diagnostic or crash data.
• Notifications — a push token or similar identifier so we can send ride updates you have allowed, including overdue, no-movement, and SOS alerts to the watchers you chose.
• Website — if you join the early community, we collect the email you submit and any optional name or interest. If you suggest a feature, we collect the email you submit, any optional name, and the suggestion. If you allow analytics, we use Google Analytics to count page visits and actions such as download and contact clicks. We do not send your name, email address, message, or suggestion text to analytics.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run advertising analytics on this website.

Cookies

This site asks before it uses analytics cookies. Until you choose Allow analytics, Google Analytics is not loaded and those cookies are not set.

A first-party cookie, trotr_analytics_consent, remembers whether you allowed or rejected analytics for about six months. That cookie is there so we do not ask on every visit, and so analytics stays off if you reject it.

You can change your choice at any time from Cookie settings in the footer. Rejecting analytics clears Google Analytics cookies already stored in this browser. It does not affect the app, early-community sign-up, feature suggestions, or the contact form.

How we use it

We use this information to:

• Provide Trotr, including live ride sharing, expected return, and completion
• Alert the watchers you have chosen, including overdue, no-movement, and SOS alerts
• Show routes, the safety map, circle, and horses in the app
• Operate, secure, and improve the app and website
• Count page visits and button clicks on this website when you allow analytics
• Respond to support and privacy requests
• Keep you updated if you join the early community
• Read feature suggestions so we can decide what to build next

Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on the bases that fit the situation: performing a contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a safe product, and consent where the law requires it (for example, certain location or notification permissions on your device).

Sharing

We share ride information with the watchers you invite, for as long as that ride is shared. That is the point of Trotr, and it is under your control. Routes you contribute to the Route Library, and reports you post on the safety map, are visible to other people using those features.

We also use service providers who process data on our behalf, such as hosting and database providers (including Supabase) needed to run the product. They are only allowed to use the information to provide those services.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people from serious harm.

How long we keep it

We keep account and support information while you use Trotr and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case you come back or we need it to resolve a request. Ride and location data is kept to provide the ride to you and your watchers, then removed or reduced when it is no longer needed.

Early-community sign-ups are kept so we can update you about Trotr, until you ask us to stop.

Your choices and rights

You choose when a ride starts and finishes, and who can follow it. You can also control location and notification permissions in your device settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information, to object or restrict certain processing, and to complain to a regulator (in the UK, the ICO). Children

Trotr is not for under-13s. The expected store age rating is 12+ because of location sharing and user-generated reports. If you think we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

International transfers

We use trusted providers who may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, we take steps intended to protect it, such as using providers with appropriate safeguards.

Changes

We may update this policy as Trotr develops. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Trotr after a change means you accept the updated policy.
